Andres and Sabrina, the French-based Venezuelan husband and wife behind Ara have managed a huge feat. Having only been making chocolate for a few short months, they have managed to create a seriously impressive range of bars.
The beans in this bar originate from a community of farmers near the Parc National San Esteban in northeastern Venezuela. They are part of a project by the Tierra Viva association that supports small producers in the region and helps set them up as cacao farmers , giving them a secure, socially and economically stable livelihood. As part of this, Tierra Viva encourages the farmers to protect and support the ecosystems of the tropical forests where the cacao is grown.
When you break off a piece of this bar you’re immediately met by a clean snap – testament to Andres’ top tempering skills. As the chocolate melts, deep, earthy flavours emerge, followed by a hint of sweet smokiness. Overall, a fantastic bar.
