Canopy Market Tasting: The Philosophy of Tasting Chocolate with Julian Baggini, 19th October 2019, 4pm
19th October, 4pm
The Craft Chocolate Takeover at Canopy Market, West Handyside Canopy (outside Waitrose), King’s Cross, London, N1C 4BH
This Chocolate Week we are collaborating with Canopy Market, the weekly independent market at King’s Cross, to host a celebration of all things cocoa for a weekend of total sensory pleasure. From the 18th – 20th October, Canopy will host a dedicated chocolate market packed with the best craft chocolatiers, tastings, talks and demonstrations, all under the market’s beautifully restored Victorian glass and steel roof.
At this tasting session, we’ll be joined by Julian Baggini, food philosopher and craft chocolate superfan. He is the author of numerous books of philosophy including the award-winning The Virtues of the Table and the recent How the Word Thinks. he is academic director of the Royal institute of Philosophy. With the help of tastings of craft chocolate we’ll be investigating what the humble cocoa bean teaches us about the nature of experience, the good life and our responsibilities to others. We’ll also be asking: Is good food purely a matter of taste? What is “natural” food and is it better? What should we believe about the health benefits and risks of chocolate?
This is a ticketed event.
