There’s no better way to say thank-you to your English teacher than paying homage to Shakespeare: chocolate Bar-d. Start with a bar that is complex in character, from our own prince of Denmark, Mikkel Friis Holm. Then taste Chocolarder’s Gorse flower theme for a Midsummer Night’s Dream. Omnom’s Coffee and Milk white chocolate lends itself to A Winter’s Tale, and Raaka’s 82% Bourbon cask-aged is more of a Falstaff character study. The Taming of the Shrew has inspired a choice of Dormouse’s milk chocolate, too! Our specially selected gift box celebrates some of Shakespeare’s best-known and most-studied plays. Please download our printable PDF HERE, which talks through the bars in more details (with a literary twist!)
Friis Holm – Indio Rojo (Guatemala), 70% Dark
Here, the flavour complexity of the Indio Rojo beans are the star of the show. This bar offers hints of lilac and rose, which then evolve into a honeyed finish.
Chocolarder – Öko Caribe, 50%
This milk bar has a profile full of nutty caramel and malted hints. An unusual inclusion gives mutedly heathery floral notes, and unmistakable aroma of coconut. The not quite smooth chocolate has an almost fudge-like texture, melting quickly on the tongue. This creation is a rich but palatable summery bar that is difficult to resist.
Omnom – Iceland, 38% White
Nicaraguan organic coffee beans have been blended with organic cocoa butter, cane sugar, and Icelandic milk. Warm, wintry, and refreshing, this bar is reminiscent of a smooth coffee buttercream.
Raaka – Tanzania, 82% Dark, Bourbon Cask Aged
This bar gives intense, unroasted chocolate with some complex floral notes. The bourbon flavour is developed by ageing the cocoa nibs in used casks, prior to them being made into chocolate.
Dormouse – Gaura Estate, 60% Dark Milk
Note hints of candied fruit and warm spice that are uniquely associated with these beans from Gaura Estate, Indonesia. This dark milk bar beautifully balances sweetness, smoothness, and intensity.
