This Hogarth Fiji Matasawalevu is sweet yet complex a dark chocolate bar. Karl Hogarth crafts all his award-winning chocolate bars in New Zealand. For this particular bar he has chosen cacao from Vanua Levu in Fiji.

Cacao was originally introduced to Fiji in the 1880’s, whilst a British colony. The British introduced a mix of different varieties from Sri Lanka and Trinidad. After the country’s independence, the government encouraged production and Fiji was a fairly large the exporter in the 1980s.

    Tasting Notes

The smooth chocolate has an initially creamy flavour that melts to reveal plenty of caramel. Sweet but still fruity coffee follows along with notes of prunes. Finally, a touch of marzipan comes through on the finish.
