On 21st June 2022, the International Chocolate Awards announced this year’s winners of the European, Middle Eastern and African Bean-to-Bar Competition. Among the winners, some of the dark chocolate bars really shone through.

We’ve put together a box of the dark chocolate winners, so you can savour their bold, indulgent flavours yourselves. In this box:

Duffy’s –Honduras Indio Rojo, 70%

This dark chocolate is made with rare and expensive fine flavour cocoa beans grown in Honduras’ Indio Rojo, this chocolate has a full bodied and intense flavour with a fruity edge.

Pump Street – Don Ramon, Peru 72%

This rich dark chocolate bar hosts notes of dry fruits and nuts. Owing to the variety of bean, Piura Blanco, the white cacao gives a an additional fresh fruitiness to this bar. This dark chocolate is brimming with fruity sweetness and notes of bright lemon sherbert, blackberries, mellowing to toffee apple and almond.

Friis Holm –Chuno Double Turned Nicaragua 70 %

A delicate dark bar made to a very particular formula. Friis Holm specified that the Nicaraguan beans used in this bar be turned twice during fermentation (hence the name). The generous bar has a delicate profile, which is initially dominated by the bar’s creamy quality. It is incredibly smooth with beautiful light spicy notes and just a hint of peach. The dark chocolate is finished off with a touch of sherbet and a slight astringency giving it a really balanced flavour.

Standout Chocolate – Maya Mountain, Belize 70%

The cacao growing on the Maya Mountains is surrounded by banana and avocado trees. This bar has notes of summer berries, characterised by blackberry and raisin as well as an indulgent chocolate brownie flavour and and buttery finish
