Made in London, using cacao from Belize, in Lucocoa’s own words, this bar Exudes confidence and class’.
This bar has been made in honour of International Women’s Day, making it an extra special addition to our chocolate library. For this limited edition bar Lucocoa has included an illustration of Minni Forman, Managing Director of Maya Mountain Cacao in Belize.
Minni is key to all aspects of Maya Mountain’s operations. She oversees everything from Maya Mountain’s research farm to its post-harvest facilities and relationships with local farmers. Not only is it beautiful on the outside, as you unwrap the bar you will also find Minni’s story inside. We think you’ll agree that this is a beautiful addition by Ama, Lucocoa’s founder, and one that we are very proud to be supporting.
To taste, this dark bar has an unusually tropical flavour. Sharp acid fruit, develop a sweet jammy note of overripe apricots. Hints of citrus and orange burst forth from the smooth, rich bar. The addition of lucuma adds to the beans’ own floral sweetness and creates a richly spiced note. As the bar slowly melt the spice unfolds and develops adding a scented hint reminiscent of strong black tea and star anise. The bar’s texture is wonderfully thick and buttery. Combined with the coconut sugar, this gives the bar’s finish the quality of coconut cream.
Rather than using refined sugar, Lucocoa sweeten all the their bars with just coconut sugar and Lucuma powder (hence the name). Lucuma is a subtropical fruit, native to the Andean valleys of Peru, Ecuador and Chile. The dry yellow flesh has a unique sweet taste that is often compared to sweet potato or maple. When dried, this so-called superfood can be used as a natural sweetener, adding an unusual flavour dimension to Lucocoa’s bars.
