Description
When husband and wife, Andres from Ecuador and Sara from Colombia, shared an intense love for chocolate and an altruistic desire to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers, such strong passions inevitably materialised into something meaningful – Rio Nuevo.
Translating to “new river”, Rio Nuevo is a bean to bar chocolate maker, handcrafting its chocolate in Falmouth, Cornwall with fine-flavour Ecuadorian cacao. Andres and Sara directly source their single estate Arriba Nacional cacao through their pre-existing connections to cocoa farmers in Ecuador. They are very proud to work with and buy directly from the cocoa farmers.
On taste, this 72% resembles the distinctive flavours of Arriba Nacional cacao, one could call it an archetypal Ecuadorian chocolate. It’s floral with jasmine and orange blossom, earthy, with subtle citrus and juicy raisins, finishing with Demerara sugar and freshly baked biscuits.

The packaging feels handmade. Lovely dark colour, faint on the nose. Starts with the most amazing of herbal notes. Somewhere between herbal tea and lozenges. Quite smooth and sweet overall. Worth it for the wonderful aromas.
