Crafted on the Isle of Wight, the cocoa beans for this bar were transported from the Dominican Republic on board the Tres Hombres. This traditional wooden sailing boat has no engine but relies on the wind and the waves (to be specific the currents) to deliver its delicious cargo across the world. As a result, this bar is not only Fairtrade but almost carbon neutral as well. The beans are sourced from Conacado, a registered Fairtrade cooperative in the Dominican Republic, that is used by number of other makers including Soma, Taza and Omnom.
Sea salt seems the perfect addition from maritime oriented Seaforth. Biting into this bar, it’s almost as if the cocoa beans absorbed some of the salty ocean air as they crossed the Atlantic.
The rich, chocolatey flavour of the Dominican beans work well as a milk chocolate. The sweet mellow flavour balances out the lightly smokey sea salt topping. The coconut nectar sugar has a subtle flavour, similar to brown sugar that enhances the chocolate’s fudgy quality and enriches the smooth chocolate with a fruity toffee note.
The chocolate has something of the sophisticated salted caramel about it. A classic milk with a twist, this is perfect for the milk chocolate fan looking for something new and a little different.
