Two identical bars of Madagascan dark chocolate are carefully wrapped in Sirene’s striking packaging.
The bar has less of the berry and roasted notes you might expect from this island nation’s cacao. Instead the bar comes alive with sharper notes of zesty citrus. Despite the pleasant acidity of the fruit, the bar has a richness and almost fudgy quality unexpected in a dark chocolate.
The beans for this bar come from Bertil Akesson’s Somia plantation, located in Ambanja in the Sambirano Valley of Northern Madagascar.
