We all love eating chocolate… but what about drinking it?

Despite drinking chocolate sometimes being dismissed as a sweet, milky treat (often for children), many don’t know that historically, drinking chocolate was the norm long before the bar was invented! From an Aztec ritual drink to a bedtime beverage, the history of drinking chocolate has long predated chocolate bars, and we’re keen to make sure it doesn’t stay on the sidelines. The rise in the popularity of drinking chocolate in recent years seems set to continue, thanks in no small part to one man.

Join Spencer Hyman and Jens Knoop, founder of Knoops, in the ultimate chocolate drinking experience. Discover the history of drinking chocolate, learn the differences and similarities between eating and drinking chocolate, and of course, try some drinking chocolate of your own! You will also get the opportunity to learn from Jens about his own experiences with drinking chocolate and what he’s learned during his journey with craft chocolate.

About Jens Knoop

Knoops started as a store in East Sussex that sold drinking chocolate. Jens Knoop has always had a fascination with chocolate, being inspired by chocolate he grew up with rural Germany. As a result, he opened his first store in 2013, and ever since, the Knoops team has expanded to several stores throughout England, all serving drinking chocolate from white to extra dark chocolate.

The Cocoa Runners Craft Chocolate Fair

A busy room with two floors, with lots of chocolate makers and people speaking to them at stallsOn 12th and 13th October, Cocoa Runners are hosting their annual Craft Chocolate Fair to kick off Chocolate Week 2024. Meet craft chocolate makers from across the UK and beyond at the indoor market, and join a series of talks, tastings and experiences in our beautiful tasting room. The event will take place at the Fidelio Cafe and Concert Venue in Farringdon, London from 11am-6pm. Attendance to the fair is free, with ticketed talks and tastings taking place across both days. Pump Street Chocolate will also be serving drinking chocolate and bringing treats from the famous Pump Street Bakery.

Following the success of the first Craft Chocolate Fair in 2023, and previous sold-out events at Canopy Market, this year’s Fair will see even more bean-to-bar chocolate makers bringing their chocolate to London, including Chocolarder, Duffy’s, Tosier, Beancraft, Land Chocolate, Dormouse and more.
