Description
ABOUT THE BAR
This milk chocolate is produced from Madagascan cocoa beans, blended with coconut milk and vanilla to give deliciously sweet and creamy notes.
ABOUT THE MAKER
This bar doesn’t just taste good, it does good. Madagascan chocolate maker Menakao proudly crafts its chocolate on the island, using only local ingredients. Unfortunately, this is rare even for craft chocolate – it’s estimated that less than 5% of the world’s chocolate is produced in the same country the cocoa is grown. By making the chocolate in Madagascar in addition to growing the cacao on the island, Menakao generate about 4-5 times the benefit of Fair Trade for the local Madagascan economy.
NOTES FROM THE MAKER
More on the story behind the bar from the maker: “The image corresponds to the portrait of an Antaimoro man (“Those of the shores”) coming from the central east coast of Madagascar, whose cultivated people very early knew Arabic writing, the art of divination, and astrology. The Antaimoro people keep in large books called “Sorabe” (which means Great and Holy Writing) the stories, magic formulas (for medical purposes), and spells of the different Antaimoro clans.”
