Nettie Atkisson is a former nursery school director, and a certified chocolate educator. She eats a lot of chocolate with her family, and creates content for craft chocolate makers. Some of her favourite craft chocolate bars come from the likes of Menakao, Original Beans, Moka, Bare Bones, and Stranger!
As any cacao farmer or craft chocolate maker will tell you, transforming a cacao seed into a chocolate bar is a complex process. ‘The Chocolate Seed’ gently explains the chocolate making process to children and their carers, using gorgeous illustrations and a soothing rhythm. The book was also designed to keep adults interested and engaged while reading it as well – Nettie found that she liked books where she could learn as she read to her newborns!

This book has provided me with a wonderful way to share the story of cocoa and chocolate with my children in a way that is both informative, fun and beautiful to look at. It’s clear that a lot of thought and research has gone into the details, with a tremendously good eye for illustration and style.
The story is written in a way that it caters for all ages, I can read it to my one year old who enjoys the rhythmic patterns, and my five year old can read it to me!

I love love love this book! The only person who loves it more than me is my 18 month daughter! It’s clever, informative, and the illustrations are breathtaking. It’s just a perfect little book. There are some children’s books I’ll read because my daughter asks me to but this one I enjoy every time.
