4th of July Collection – American Makers

Celebrate the 4th of July with a box of 5 American craft chocolate bars, from some of our favourite American craft chocolate makers!

The beans used for these bars come from the Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Uganda, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic, with bars crafted by makers in New York, Pennsylvania, New England, and Massachusetts.

In the box: 

French Broad – Dark Milk 53%

This dark milk bar is made with organic browned butter, which creates a rich and fudgy profile akin to a chocolate banana pudding.

Moka – Semuliki, Uganda, Dark 72% 

A bar with great length — and an intriguing combination of chocolate pudding and red stone fruits. The beans for this bar are from Uganda’s Semuliki Forest, where Jeff Steinberg’s Latitude Trading company sources cocoa from 1500 local farmers — helping them plant, cultivate, harvest, ferment and dry their beans.

Fruition – Brown Butter Milk Bar 43%

The bar contains 43% cocoa solids and butter, and instead of using whole milk powder, Bryan uses non-fat milk powder from California combined with brown butter from an amazing farm just across the Hudson River called Ronnybrook. Bryan spent over 6 months perfecting the recipe and it’s well worth it!

BOHO – Lachua, Guatemala, Dark 70%

This creamy Guatemalan bar is full of bright fruity notes, with hints of red berries and nuts. The 200 hectares surrounding Lake Lachua, Guatemala, are home to the Q’eqchi’ Maya, who rely on the traditional cultivation of cocoa, honey, cardamom, and corn for their livelihoods.

Taza Chocolate – Mexicano Cacao Puro

These disks are made of 70% single origin Dominican dark chocolate, bursting with bold, wine-like flavour, accompanied by Taza’s signature gritty texture. Taza tell us that this is the “purest expression” of their proudly unrefined chocolate. We enjoyed the delicious, fruity notes. This is an unusual chocolate that is very easy to munch!
