About the box
On 24th June 2026, two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela, devastating communities across the country’s central and northern regions, including cocoa-growing areas that are home to some of the world’s finest cacao. This four bar selection features chocolate from Venezuelan-run makers Aroko and Ara, alongside bars from Bonnat and Willie’s using Venezuelan cacao.
Cocoa Runners is donating 10% of sales from this box to the Cocoa Community Around the World, United for Venezuela fundraiser, an initiative led by Venezuelan chocolate makers and cocoa professionals to support affected cocoa-growing communities.
If you’re able to, you can donate directly to the fundraiser here.
This box includes:
Aroko – Puffed Rice, Sur Del Lago, Venezuela, Dark Milk 55%
This is a dark milk bar from Italian-Venezuelan maker Aroko made with organic Alpine milk and puffed rice. The creaminess of the milk is balanced out by the crunchiness of the puffed rice to create an nice texture and melt. We detect creamy notes of orange, peach, and papaya. The beans for this bar are sourced from the Lake Maracaibo area of Sur Del Lago, Venezuela.
Ara Chocolat – Cacahuatl, El Salvador, Dark 70%
A delicate fruity & tropical dark chocolate bar from Ara Chocolat, with a beautiful melt. We picked up on notes of ripe stone fruits, light berry notes, and deeper flavours of dried apricot, reminding us of a raspberry and peach sorbet. Ara Chocolat is a Parisian bean-to-bar chocolate maker founded by Venezuelan couple, Andrés and Sabrina.
Willie’s Cacao – Pure Gold 100%
Using beans from south of Venezuela’s Lake Maracaibo (Sur del Lago), Willie has created a beautifully silky 100% bar with decidedly nutty flavour notes.
Bonnat – Puerto Cabello, Dark 75%
This bar is deliciously smooth. As it melts, enjoy a hint of cooling menthol that gives way slowly to a warming cinnamon finish. The beans for this bar come from Puerto Cabello, a renowned cacao-producing region located in Carabobo, Venezuela. The area is known for Trinitario and Criollo hybrid cocoa beans, and the beans are typically fermented in wooden boxes for 5 to 6 days and sundried in courtyards.
