About the box

The snack bars in this giftbox from Pridi taste even better than they look. Each of the bars is covered in a thin layer of 64% dark chocolate and individually wrapped. We found ourselves reminiscing while tasting them – think the craft chocolate version of some of your old corner shop favourites.

There’s been quite a lot of excitement surrounding these bars – Annalisa Barbieri, Chocolate Correspondent for the Observer, wrote about them in a recent article – “There’s the peanut caramel one I pounced on, a coconut bar, one with cashew crisp and the last one with caramel cookie. All covered in 64% Thai dark chocolate. These aren’t cheap, £12.95, but they’re gorgeous and perfect if you enjoyed newsagent favourites, but now prefer them with less sugar”.

About the maker

Daniel Bucher, Pridi’s founder, never envisioned himself becoming a chocolate maker. As a chef by training, Daniel’s interest sprouted from a culinary challenge – he was sourcing ingredients for a high-end hotel and wanted to feature locally-made chocolate. Thailand shares the same latitude as many renowned cocoa-growing nations like Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia; and yet, Daniel couldn’t find Thai chocolate that met the quality standards of a five-star hotel or fine-dining establishment. With the unexpected downtime brought on by lockdown, Daniel embarked on a quest to understand the story behind this absence – was it a flavour limitation, a supply chain issue, or something else entirely? This curiosity led him down a path of exploration, ultimately pushing him to try to make his very own chocolate. Little did Daniel know, this initial exploration would soon blossom into PRIDI Cacaofevier, a testament to the potential of Thai chocolate.
