About the maker

Bare Bones Chocolate was founded in Glasgow in 2018 by Lara and Cameron, two craft chocolate lovers who decided to try their hand making their own. The results speak for themselves! Multiple successes at the International Chocolate Awards and Great Taste Awards have followed, and their beautiful packaging, made from recycled paper coffee cups and repurposed food waste, highlights their commitment to great taste while protecting the planet and its people.

The beans

The beans in this bar are a special variety of cocoa named Mayan Red, which was almost extinct when it was discovered in 2006 in three small neighbouring farms in northern Honduras. The XOCO Cooperative, the supplier of these beans, has encouraged farmers since then to plant new Mayan Red trees, and to plant them spaced well apart to ensure the trees can live off the natural nutrients in the rich soil. The cooperative also provides technical support over the lifetime of the trees, and guarantees good prices for the beans once harvested.
