Creamy and indulgent, this 60% dark milk chocolate bar from Scottish makers Chocolate Tree is fruity and citrussy. We picked up on tasting notes of cranberries, citrus, and a sweet note of honey.

About the maker

Founders of Chocolate Tree, Alastair and Friederike Gower, started their chocolate adventure in 2005 by touring music festivals and selling their chocolates from a hand built solar powered geodesic dome tent. However, working with organic couvertures wasn’t enough for them. Alastair and Friederike – being the adventurous types – decided to start making their own chocolate from bean to bar in 2012. This was a time when the craft chocolate movement was just getting started in the UK. Chocolate Tree also run its chocolaterie in Edinburgh, which offers a comfortable, relaxing environment for customers to enjoy a chocolate-rich menu.

The beans

The beans used for this bar are called ‘Choba Choba’ – which translates to “I help you. You help me”. Grown in the Huayabamba Valley in Peru by local communities, the cacao farms are in the peaceful heart of the Upper Amazon, the birthplace of the cacao tree. The cacao farms cover 120 hectares, reaching across Santa Rosa, Pucallpillo, Pizarro, and Bello Horizonte.
