This dark bar from Standout is the embodiment of the Swedish social tradition “fika”. As a way to take a break from life, the tradition involves having a freshly brewed cup of coffee with something sweet like a cinnamon bun. Standout have captured this warm and cosy feeling in this 69% bar, which has notes of coffee, cardamom, and cinnamon.

About the maker

Standout Chocolate launched onto the craft chocolate scene as a one-man-band in 2018. Fredrik Martinsson, Standout’s founder, has a background in engineering and specialty coffee, and he uses that experience and skillset to craft his award-winning chocolate in Kållered, Sweden. He sources his cocoa beans directly from co-operatives and farmers all over the world, aiming to create “a better world, through social, environmental and economic sustainability for the farmers.”

The beans

After starting out in beekeeping in 2007, Ingemann moved into Nicaragua’s cocoa sector in 2013. The establishment of Ingemann was supported by the Danish government’s Danida B2B programme, which had the aim of tackling poverty in developing countries through promoting their economic growth and social development.  Beans are grown across Nicaragua and then purchased at farm gate, before being taken to Ingemann’s central facility for fermentation and drying. This allows farmers to concentrate their energies on managing their plantation and the maintaining the quality of their trees.
