Description
Made with a rare ‘blonde’ cocoa from the island of Java, this is a dark milk chocolate bar with a distinctive flavour. From the very first bite we detected a smokiness that remained with us from the start. This smokiness is much more pronounced than in the Surabaya bar, and here this is paired with a silky caramel sweetness. A rich, complex dark milk chocolate bars, that is sure to please those who are already fans of this French maker’s signature style.
Packing in 65% cocoa solids means this is bar is much more intense than many milk chocolate. What’s more, generous proportion of cocoa butter and milk give this undeniably rich bar a wonderuflly creamy flavour. However, as this is a dark milk chocolate, this bar gets much of its sweetness from the natural sugars of the milk and the cocoa fruit. In fact, when compared to mainstream milk chocolate, it actually contains relatively little added sugar.
The Bonnat family has been making chocolate in Voiron, France for over 130 years. It was current head Stephane Bonnat’s parents, Raymond and Nicole Bonnat who pioneered Bonnat’s first single origin bars in the 1980’s. Stephane has continued his parent’s tradition and the company now works with 35 different plantations worldwide to produce their bars.

Flavour was caramel, starting a bit smokey.

I’m sure it’s technically great chocolate – definitely lovely and creamy but I just couldn’t get past the strong flavour. I think the other reviewer describing the mushroomy/stiltony flavour probably captures it…I hate both those! I ended up getting rid of it the bar after a couple of squares.

Absolutely delicious. I would try anything from Bonnat. This is a very enjoyable dark milk. Texture, flavour everything.

I really wanted to enjoy this but the blue-cheese and mushroomy notes were to odd for me. Lovely texture but would get a different bar from this brand next time.

I’ve honestly got to say this is probably the best milk chocolate I’ve tried so far.
This is an extremely buttery and milky chocolate with a more mellow cocoa hit when compared to Surabaya. The cocoa is nowhere near overwhelming, so it’s for those who truly enjoy the creaminess and milkiness of chocolate without the unnecessary amounts of sugar. It hits the spot in all the right places and it isn’t all dependant on the sugar to deliver pleasure.
