This dark chocolate is rich in flavour and creamy in mouthfeel, with virtually no bitterness. The finish is clean, and an excellent bar to pair with tannic red wines.

About the maker

It was quite simply a love of great chocolate that propelled Dutch founders Rodney and Enver to begin to create bean-to-bar chocolate in Amsterdam in 2011. Together they search the world for fine cocoa, dealing directly with cocoa farmers to ensure they get a fair deal – and you get the best possible quality! Indeed, Rodney and Enver are as passionate about ethics and sustainability as they are about the chocolate itself. They use only organic ingredients, and work directly to improve the environment, helping with a mountain gorilla conservation project in Congo and transporting the beans for their Tres Hombres bar from the Dominican Republic on the beautiful sailing cargo ship of the same name.

The beans

This intense 92% dark chocolate bar is crafted from cacao of the Virunga National Park in Congo and Arenga Bossuiker. The cacao is harvested for the project of the Masarang Foundation that helps protect the orangutan habitat. The cacao that grows has been planted to provide the farmers with decent income and to ensure that the habitat of the gorillas is not threatened.
