If menthol flavours are your thing, then this bar from OBOLO will be right up your street. The muña muña is a medicinal and wild plant from the Great North of Chile, and gives this Peruvian cocoa a pleasant and mint-like flavour. The muña muña is collected manually by Patricia Pérez, better known as the Atacameña.

ABOUT THE MAKER

ÓBOLO’s story begins over 25 years ago, as Mark Gerrits, a young man from the US, sets off on a three-month vacation in Chile. Little did he know, this short backpacking trip would expose him to the flavours, aromas, and colours of Latin America – and he would fall in love with the region and the people who care for it. So much so that he never went home!

THE BEANS

The beans in this bar are an heirloom variety grown in the heart of Peru, near the beautiful mountains of the Junin region. They are grown by the women-led CAC Pangoa cooperative, which was founded in 1977 to organise and educate the region’s coffee growers. As the coffee plants have aged, the cooperative’s farmers have increasingly turned to fine-flavour cocoa as a sustainable and safe replacement.
