This fruity bar from Swedish maker Standout Chocolate is full of rich floral notes and highs of dark fruits and blueberry.
ABOUT THE MAKER
Standout Chocolate launched onto the craft chocolate scene as a one-man-band in 2018. Fredrik Martinsson, Standout’s founder, has a background in engineering and specialty coffee, and he uses that experience and skillset to craft his award-winning chocolate in Kållered, Sweden. He sources his cocoa beans directly from co-operatives and farmers all over the world, aiming to create “a better world, through social, environmental and economic sustainability for the farmers.”
The beans for this bar come from the Urubamba Valley in the Peruvian Andes, a stone’s throw from the ancient mountain-top city of Machu Picchu. Urubamba Valley is home to the Chuncho bean, one of Peru’s rarest varieties of cocoa and one of the world’s aromatically richest. Responsible for the care of these beans are the 100 farmers of the Alto Urubamba Cooperative, 45 of whom are women.
