Svenska Kakaobolaget – 100% DARKNESS, Kokoa Kamili, Tanzania
Fredrik and Ulrika name their summer of 2013 as the “vacation that never ended”. When in Österlen, a small Swedish village, making a quick pitstop for a cup of coffee, the pair fortuitously left with the keys to a 19th century red brick school building. This had been the confectionary factory Österlenchoklad. Fredrik and Ulrika left their busy lives in the city for their new home in the Swedish countryside.
Three months after purchasing the factory, the couple founded Svenska Kakaobolaget – “The Swedish Cacao Company”.
The cacao for this chocolate had been sourced from Kokoa Kamili in Tanzania. Kokoa Kamili purchase wet cocoa from smallholder farmers and ferment it at its fermentation centre, which enables Kokoa Kamili to constantly monitor the fermentation process. Once fermented and sun-dried, Kokoa Kamili sell directly to quality chocolate makers around the world.
This 100% Tanzania chocolate has a creamy mouthfeel and somewhat green in flavour, with a slightly smoked edge nearing the finish. This is a highly approachable 100%, and one we fell in love with on first taste.
