Description
TASTING NOTES
Zotter’s chocolate and nut spread for your breakfast bun. It’s made from a nutty hazelnut praline crafted in-house from roasted hazelnuts, with some hazelnut pulp and 70% dark chocolate. Finished off with a refreshing dash of verjus.
ABOUT THE MAKER
Josef Zotter is one of the long-established heroes of the craft chocolate movement. He has been producing chocolate since 1992, became famous for his wacky flavour combinations (scarlet runner bean and coriander pastry, anyone?), and was one of the earliest to produce 100% Organic and Fairtrade products. He has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of his growers around the world, engaging in numerous initiatives in Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. He also runs an outstanding chocolate factory visitor experience – The Zotter Experience – that is a must-see for any chocolate-loving visitors to Austria.

Given a choice between this and Zotter’s choco spread I would go for the latter. But I like this enough for 5 stars too. Hazelnut is the main ingredient, not sugar as in mass market alternatives. The roasting seems perfect to me, and the chocolate adds richness without dominating. The consistency is solid, so you need to scoop it out in thin slivers if you want to spread it on something delicate, or put it on something warm.

I had high hopes for this, being a Zotter fan, but sadly it looks nothing like the photo inside. It had set firm and I was unable to spread it or stir it into a spreadable consistency (it had also set sideways, for some reason). The scent/flavour resembled stale hazelnuts to me, but obviously may taste differently to others.

really nutty and chocolaty, one of the best nut /choco spread I’ve had
