Original Beans – Vegan M!lk (Almond), Esmeraldas 50%
Substituting dairy for almonds, Original Beans have produced an incredible vegan bar; delicate and creamy, with notes of gianduja and barley malt. The Spanish Guara almonds are picked from small organic farmers from the Alicante province.
Luisa’s Vegan Chocolates – Mindanao, Philippines 92% Dark
Luisa’s Vegan Chocolates are a Nottingham-based maker, founded by the eponymous Luisa; a former textiles teacher who discovered a passion for craft chocolate making.
This bar has great depth. There’s a pleasing astringency, but no bitterness at all. It’s fruity, with an interesting tang.
Pump Street – Ecuador 60% Oat Milk
Pump Street’s first dairy-free milk chocolate is made with Scottish oat milk, and has a pleasingly fudgy melt with scents of cinnamon, hazelnuts, and sweet cream.
Karuna – White Chocolate with Sea Buckthorn
An amazingly golden bar with a creamy mouthfeel followed by a sharp, tangy, citrusy kick. This almond-based white bar is a rare find!
Pump Street – Jamaica 75% (20g Taster Bar)
This dark chocolate bar from Pump Street Baker is a buttery bar with a smooth, indulgent melt. Rum and raisin is mixed with a touch of caramel and brown sugar giving a rich and decadent aroma. We noted hints of smoked honey on the finish.
Zotter – Praline Layers Bar
This filled bar has three layers of nutty praline coated in a classic dark chocolate. It opens with a hazelnut praline, before melting into the walnut praline and finishing on a layer of green pumpkin seed praline. A nutty classic that’s completely vegan.
Taza Chocolate Mexicano Cacao Puro
These disks are made of 70% single origin Dominican dark chocolate, bursting with bold, wine-like flavour, accompanied by Taza’s signature gritty texture. Taza tell us that this is the “purest expression” of their proudly unrefined chocolate. We enjoyed the delicious, fruity notes.
Menakao – Dark Chocolate 63% with Cocoa Nibs & Sea Salt
The chocolate is full of the typical pronounced berry notes of Madagascan cacao. The added cocoa nibs (the purest form of chocolate, pieces of dried and fermented cacao beans) give a powerful crunch, bursting with fruit and tannins, combining deep flavour with added texture.
MIA – 65% Dark Chocolate with Almond and Coconut
This bar has been crafted from Madagascan cacao and sugar, and is topped with finely grated coconut pieces and salted almonds. If you love sweet and savoury contrast, we’re sure you’ll enjoy this chocolate bar.
