About the bar

This dark chocolate bar is fudgy in texture with notes of spice, jammy fruits, and an almost mulled wine like flavour on the background of deep chocolate. The melt is foremost elegant – even surprisingly smooth, despite there being no added cocoa butter.

About the maker

Founded by Erik and Ariane Hansen in 2015, DesBarres is a micro-batch manufacturer of single origin, bean to bar chocolate, sourcing direct trade cacao from around the world. DesBarres makes its chocolate with uncompromising attention to detail in order to create the very best chocolate experience. Using only cacao and organic cane sugar, DesBarres coaxes out the plethora of wonderful flavours of the cacao it sources.

The beans

The beans in this bar were sourced from Semuliki Forest Cacao, a grower-centred fermentery that works with over one thousand small-scale organic cocoa farmers. It lies in Bundibugyo, a district of western Uganda that borders the Semuliki National Park. Renowned for its cocoa production, the district also neighbours the Rwenzori Mountains, a diverse ecosystem that is legendary for holding the source of the Nile River.
