Description

Latitude – Semuliki, Uganda Bukonzo Coffee

From Uganda-based maker Latitude comes a bar which brings together local flavours into one delectable experience. Here, they have blended the bright and nutty cocoa of the Semuliki Forest, with Arabica coffee from the Rwenzori Mountains. Together, these flavours give a thoroughly Ugandan tasting experience.

Original Beans – Cru Udzungwa 70%

This bar from Amsterdam-based Original Beans presents the gorgeous flavour of Tanzanian cocoa beans. With hints of orange, apricot, and toffee, the chocolate is a rich tasting experience, but the bar also has ground cocoa nibs permeating it, providing a more complex, earthy texture.

Chocolate Makers – Gorilla Bar Milk 37%

Dutch chocolate makers, aptly named Chocolatemakers, have created a rich and supremely creamy milk chocolate with cocoa beans from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This bar has a roasted and caramel profile, but with hints of citrus which give it complexity.

Luisa Abram – 70% Dark Chocolate with Cupuaçu

Luisa Abram is a Brazilian craft chocolate maker, making chocolate with Brazilian cocoa beans. This dark chocolate takes wild grown cacao from the banks of the Tocantins River to create a fresh flavour of citrus fruits. But, interestingly, Luisa has also included crystalised pieces of cupuaçu, which gives a mouth-watering, tropical dimension to the bar. Cupuaçu is the fruit of the cocoa tree’s close cousin; Theobroma grandiflorum.

Conexión – Esmereldas UOPROCAE co-op 66%

Typically for Ecuadorian cacao, this bar has a green and vegetal profile. Conexión have crafted a bar from fine flavoured Arriba Nacional beans which is characteristic of the variety; with hints of wine and pear drops. The 66% dark bar has been produced in partnership with the UOPROCAE cooperative of farmers in Esmeraldas Province, and the profits are shared by all.
