About the bar
This is the kind of chocolate that makes you look twice at the ingredients to see where the flavours come from. But there’s no added flavour here. The deep, fruity notes come entirely from the Vietnamese Trinitario cocoa beans.
The flavour is intense, but thanks to some sweet red fruit notes, it’s a chocolate anyone can enjoy. Underneath the fruitiness you’ll find some wonderful spicy notes with a hint of cinnamon and liquorice.
About the maker
Marou are tree to bar chocolate makers in Vietnam. Samuel Maruta (now sadly deceased) and Vincent Mourou, the founders of Marou, are well known for their passion for ‘terroir’ in cacao. They understand that climate, soil, and water of each province, along with the different cacao varieties and post-harvest practices, contribute to the different flavour profiles of each origin – much like wine. The Marou name – a combination of Samuel & Vincent’s surnames – has rapidly become synonymous with quality, ethically produced chocolate.
Producing chocolate from the bean in the country of origin is a challenging process. The tropical heat needed to grow cocoa makes producing, storing and shipping finished chocolate bars a logistical nightmare. Marou overcame these obstacles and just two years after they started, they’re already producing some of the best bean to bar chocolate in the world.

Absolutely stunning and delicious bar. One of my favourite Marou bars. Marou's chocolate is my favourite....so flavourful and each bar so different showcasing the various distinct cocao beans and farms they originated from and how their durrounding influence the cocoa taste. This bar being no exception. Perfect snap, fruity, smooth and chocolatey sweetness from spicy notes! 😋

This was a present and quite a discovery. Like the description says it's hard to believe that the intensity and depth of flavours in this bar come only from the bean. It packs a punch with it's seriously dark liquorice finish. But don't be fooled, there is nothing harsh or unromantic about this chocolate; it is intensely deeply fruity and velvety too. It has so much going on best for sitting in companionable silence whilst tasting, maybe with the lights low listneing to a mellow bit of saxaphone. definitley for the evening and the dark. Will be buying again.
