ABOUT THE MAKER

Jannie and Marc have always described themselves as “chocolate addicts”. They started out making chocolate at home, but in 2015 decided they wanted to share their passion with the world – and so Belvie was born. Made from the finest Vietnamese cocoa beans, Belvie’s chocolate is handcrafted in small batches to maintain quality. Their beans are purchased directly from local farmers, and they see paying a premium price as an important step in halting the decline of Vietnam’s cocoa farmers.

THE BEANS

The beans in this bar are sourced from a farm in Don Duong, a district of Lam Dong province. Situated in a cool climate about 1km above sea level, the farm belongs to an old couple, who also plant mandarin, coffee, tea, guava, and other fruits among their cocoa trees. Jannie and Marc work directly with the farm’s owners, and Jannie’s fondness for the place comes through in her description of it: “It’s a really romantic farm on the hillside, quiet, fresh and peaceful.”
