This festive milk chocolate bar is flavoured with traditional Dutch Sinterklaas herbs, giving the bar a flavour profile of warm winter spices. It’s a festive treat that’s impossible to resist!
ABOUT THE MAKER
Dutch founders Rodney and Enver began to create bean-to-bar chocolate in Amsterdam in 2011. They are as passionate about ethics and sustainability as they are about the chocolate itself; they use only Organic ingredients, pay 50% above the Fairtrade price, and aim to become carbon neutral in their chocolate production. One aspect of this comes from their factory in Amsterdam’s harbour, which has such a large solar panel-covered roof that they generate more power than they consume.
The beans in this bar are sourced from Conacado, a large cooperative of roughly 10,000 small-scale farmers in the Dominican Republic. Conacado works with these farmers to improve the quality and size of their yields and to negotiate better deals with cocoa exporters. The beans are then brought to the Netherlands on the sailing ship Tres Hombres, as part of Chocolate Makers’s aim to one day create a CO2-free cocoa supply chain.
