Chococard
About Chococard
Chococard was founded in 2011 by husband-and-wife duo Izabella Foki and Zoltán Koncos. When Izabella and Zoltán first started out, the pair were using couverture chocolate as they believed that their chocolate was slave-free, and they were fair with farmers. After a few years, Izabella and Zoltán learned that most of this was marketing, and decided to dive headfirst into making their very own line of bean-to-bar chocolate bars, with Zoltán joining fulltime in 2017. The name ‘Chococard’ was inspired by their very first product – a decorated chocolate bar in a box which was specially designed to hold a postcard.

How they became makers…
Izabella and Zoltán decided to enter into the world of chocolate for two simple reasons – Izabella needed a job, and both Zoltán and her absolutely loved chocolate. Izabella had attended a handful of small chocolate-making workshops, and had learnt enough to temper chocolate herself. Today, it’s still just the two of them running Chococard, with occasional help from friends and relatives.

Chococard’s Sourcing
After discovering that the farmers harvesting the cocoa beans used to make their couverture were not being reimbursed enough, Izabella and Zoltán decided to move onto making their own bean-to-bar chocolate. The pair only buy beans from farms that they’ve already visited, so they know the cooperatives, the people working there, and can be sure that the cocoa is sourced as sustainably as possible without child labour or illegal deforestation.
The first plantation Izabella and Zoltán visited was Cacao Bisiesto in Nicaragua in September 2015. At the time they visited, it was so off-season that the pair couldn’t sample the beans, but they liked Giff and the farm so much that they ordered our first beans from him fully blind. Today, Chococard work with 7 different origins, including beans from Nicaragua, Madagascar, Tanzania, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Mexico, and Togo.
