Chocolaterie Robert

Chocolaterie Robert – crafting its chocolate in Madagascar – has a history dating back to 1937. The company is named after its founders, Mr and Mrs Robert, a French couple from the small island of Réunion next to Madagascar. The very first Madagascan chocolate factory had originally been set up in Brickaville in Vohibinany, where at the time had been the main cultivation area for cacao – Brickaville being the first place in Madagascar where cocoa had been introduced. Robert slowly began to relocate its production bit by bit towards Ambanja, this was following the French colonisation where Ambanja had become the ideal location for French settlers supplying France with agricultural products.
