About Sisters A. Chocolate

Founded by sisters Olena and Oleksandra, Sisters A. Chocolate is a bean-to-bar chocolate maker based in Ukraine, dedicated to creating chocolate that is honest, minimal, and crafted with care. What began as a home kitchen project in 2018 has grown into a team of seven women, producing chocolate that reflects a philosophy of respect for nature, farmers, and manual labour.

Their chocolate is made without synthetic additives, hydrogenated fats or dairy, instead using plant-based ingredients, organic and farm-sourced additions, and a simple core of cocoa beans, cocoa butter, and reduced amounts of cane or coconut sugar. Their recipes highlight clean, bold flavours – often complemented by natural ingredients like rum, rose oil, freeze-dried fruit, or spices – and showcase a deep appreciation for high-quality, unprocessed food.

Working under the ongoing conditions of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Sisters A. Chocolate continues to produce with remarkable dedication. Amid air raid sirens, power outages, and widespread disruption, they continue their work – balancing production with caring for families and navigating safety risks – all while growing their business and winning Gold and Silver medals at the 2024 London Academy of Chocolate Awards.

How they became makers…

Sisters A Chocolate began in 2018, when Oleksandra started experimenting with bonbons and cakes at home. What began as a curiosity quickly grew into a passion, as she taught herself the foundations of chocolate-making through trial, error, and online research. When she shared her early creations with her sister Olena, the two realised they had discovered something special.

Their journey into chocolate-making has been entirely self-driven — fuelled by creativity, instinct, and a love for craft. With no formal training, they learned by doing, refining their skills step by step and always guided by a deep respect for flavour, simplicity, and quality. They have even collaborated with a beer maker to create a Chocolate, Cherry and Juniper Milk Stout.

What started in a home kitchen has grown into a small, ever-expanding factory space, where a team of women now help bring their vision to life. Together, they continue to build a business rooted in care, resilience, and a shared belief in making chocolate with purpose.

Sisters A. Chocolates’s Sourcing

Sourcing is central to the Sisters A approach. Their beans are supplied by Daarnhouwer, and include cacao from Tanzania (Kokoa Kamili), Dominican Republic (Öko Caribe), Madagascar (Mava Maliolio), Peru (San Martin) and Colombia (Tumaco).

Each origin is selected for its transparency, quality, and ethical cultivation practices. Their ingredients are chosen with equal care. The sisters alway favour organic and farmed raw materials, with a preference for plant-based alternatives and natural additions like juniper, rose oil, bee pollen, freeze-dried fruit, and high-quality spirits.

Despite the challenges of importing raw materials during the ongoing invasion – including frequent inspections, disrupted logistics, and increased bureaucracy – Sisters A. Chocolate continues to uphold its sourcing standards, crafting chocolate that reflects both resilience and integrity at every step.Sisters A Chocolate 4
