About Lumineux

Lumineux, in French, translates to luminous or bright – which is exactly how Lumineux want you to feel when you take a bite of their wonderful bars! Despite the fact that their initial product line was launched a week before COVID started shutting businesses down in March 2020, Benjamin and Rebecca Snyder have become well-established craft chocolate makers, winning a bronze award from the Academy of Chocolate last year for their 70% Orange and Cardamom Dark bar. Their mission: to produce ethically-sourced craft chocolate which is sophisticated enough for the chocolate expert, while still being inviting enough to someone trying craft chocolate for the first time.

For Lumineux, innovation is a key – Benjamin and Rebecca are looking to create new bars through different techniques which will allow tasters to compare different production styles of the same percentage and origin of chocolate.

How they became makers…

Husband and wife duo Benjamin and Rebecca Snyder were introduced to the world of chocolate during their careers in the restaurant business. Benjamin was working as a pastry chef and head baker at a number of restaurants and bakeries, and Rebecca as a cake decorator and a baker at several bakeries. After spending so much of their time working with pastry, the pair decided they wanted to learn more about the world of chocolate and where it came from – from here, Benjamin and Rebecca bought a small refiner, and started to make chocolate themselves as a hobby. The couple completely fell in love with the intricacies of craft chocolate, and began experimenting with flavours that you can’t find in grocery stores; thus, Lumineux was born.

Lumineux’s Sourcing

Ethically and sustainably sourced cocoa is at the forefront of Lumineux’s mission – in fact, part of the reason behind Lumineux’s name was because Benjamin and Rebecca wanted to shine a light on the farms and co-ops in African fighting against the bad reputation that the African cocoa industry has. The pair work with a number of companies which work directly with farms and co-ops at origin to ensure the traceability and sustainability of the cocoa, as well as the ethical treatment of the farmers. None of their cocoa is grown or harvested using forced child labour, or by farmers earning below a living wage.
